One of the greatest things about living in such a big city (or close to it, at least) is that there are amazing deals for fun things to do as a family. We caught wind of a deal on LivingSocial for something called The North Pole Express in Ivyland/New Hope. It looked similar to the Polar Express and I think we paid about $50 for the entire family to ride. Each of us got hot chocolate and a cookie and the kids got a bell from Santa and Mrs. Claus. It was very much like The Polar Express. Since we were going all the way to New Hope, we thought we'd stop by Peddler's Village and see the Christmas lights they have on display. It was freezing, but we had a great time!
We stopped in the ice cream shop for some ice cream and hot chocolate. Then we headed over to the train station. We got there extremely early and we realized that there is absolutely nowhere to wait inside for the train. We decided that instead of just sitting out on the platform freezing, we should walk around. It was nice to see some of the downtown area of New Hope. It was very pretty!
We headed back to the train station and waited some more...
Our train was pretty late, but it finally arrived!
We were very excited to get on the train. It wasn't super warm, but it was much warmer than it was outside! The seats were very nice and the train was a lot nicer than what we were used to on the Polar Express in Williams.
We sang lots of Christmas songs. We didn't read any books, but the songs were great and there was even a guitarist who would come in all the different train cars to sing with us. Then we got a visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus! Santa actually takes time to sit with each child and ask them what they want for Christmas and whether or not they've been good boys and girls this year. He also gives them a beautiful jingle bell in a nice velvet pouch and we were able to take a picture. I think it came out pretty nice, so we bought it.
When we left it was pretty late. We hit McDonald's for dinner and headed home. Matthew crashed in the car!
It was a fun night. If we are able to get a good deal like that again, we'll definitely go next year. However, we won't be showing up any more than 10 minutes early next time.
